Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor visits NJU Suzhou Campus

On May 27, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the fifth Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, visited Suzhou Campus of Nanjing University. She delivered a speech titled "Adhering to and Improving the Practice of 'One Country, Two Systems' in Hong Kong", and engaged in warm exchanges with faculty and students. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences hosted the event.

Tan Tieniu warmly welcomed Carrie Lam and briefly introduced the NJU's development history and latest achievements. He pointed out that NJU, rooted in the fertile soil of Jiangsu, has always taken serving Jiangsu as its mission. In recent years, it has fully supported Jiangsu's high-quality development. At the same time, NJU closely aligns with national strategies and development needs, actively promoting deep cooperation between Suzhou and Hong Kong, fully demonstrating the firm confidence and practical actions of university-local collaboration. Tan Tieniu fondly recalled Mrs. Lam's four visits to NJU, and looked forward to further deepening cooperation in the future. He encouraged faculty members and students to contribute greater efforts to the construction of a world-class NJU with Chinese characteristics, assist in the innovative integration development of Suzhou and Hong Kong in the new era, and comprehensively promote the construction of a strong nation and the great rejuvenation of the nation through Chinese-style modernization.

In her speech, Carrie Lam systematically reviewed the background and the emergence of "One Country, Two Systems". Based on her own experience, she vividly explained the significance of adhering to and improving "One Country, Two Systems", and how to better ensure its steady progress. Hong Kong, "backed by the motherland and facing the world," is actively building a platform for top-notch talents from home and abroad. She warmly invited NJU students to study and work in Hong Kong, joining hands to contribute wisdom and strength to the rejuvenation of the nation. Carrie Lam engaged in lively exchanges with faculty and students, focusing on topics such as cooperation in the field of science and technology between the two regions, interconnection among young students, and development of Hong Kong's cultural industry.

Before the speech, Carrie Lam toured Suzhou Campus, listened to introductions about the campus planning, construction, and development history. Jiang Tian, Assistant President of NJU and representatives of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Jiangsu attended the event.
