On May 20th, Nanjing University held its 123rd anniversary celebration on Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended and delivered a concluding speech. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS, presented a keynote report.

Tan Tieniu and Tan Zhemin extended greetings to all faculty, staff, students, and alumni at home and abroad. They expressed heartfelt thanks and high respect to leaders at all levels and friends from various sectors who have supported the development of Nanjing University.

This year marks the conclusion of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the planning for the "15th Five-Year Plan," the final sprint of NJU'S "Forging Ahead" first cycle, and a key year for implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important reply. Tan Tieniu stated that 1, 2, 3, is the familiar starting command, facing the new journey ahead, we should unite and strive, advance in position, act promptly, and respond to the situation, to accelerate the construction of the "First Nanjing University". He emphasized that all faculty, staff, and students should take the 123rd anniversary as a starting point, always remember President Xi Jinping's earnest instructions, fully implement the spirit of his important reply letter, seize opportunities for development, and face challenges with renewed effort, so as to make new and greater contributions to our national rejuvenation and  Chinese-style modernization.

Tan Zhemin reviewed many touching moments from NJU's 123-year journey. In line with the requirements of the new era, he made systematic work arrangements for accelerating the construction of the "First Nanjing University". He emphasized that every key node in NJU's 123-year journey is engraved with the original aspiration and ideal of serving the nation and the people, showcasing the courage and responsibility to face challenges. We should inherit the spirit of the century-old NJU, courageously undertake the mission of a strong nation in education, further gather the wisdom and strength of all faculty and students, keep pace with the times, and accomplish the vision of the "First Nanjing University" through continuous efforts, thus responding the calling and needs of the nation and the people.

During the ceremongy, Tan Tieniu and Tan Zhemin presented certificates to alumni representatives and institutions who generously supported the university's talent cultivation, discipline innovation, and scientific and technological breakthroughs.

Three representatives, Wang Tao, party secretary of the School of Astronomy and Space Science, alumni Zheng Gang, from the 2004 class of Kuang Yaming College, and Xue Ke, a 2022 doctoral student from the School of Artificial Intelligence, shared their experience and aspirations.
