On May 20th, the motto stone donated by Nanjing University Shanghai Alumni Association was officially unveiled. During the ceremony, Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences presented a certificate of appreciation to Zhu Zhendong, President of the Shanghai Alumni Association.

Suo Wenbin, Vice President of NJU and Vice President of the NJU Alumni Association, expressed sincere gratitude to the Shanghai Alumni Association. He also extended heartfelt thanks to all the staff who worked diligently for the completion of the motto stone. He pointed out that the spirit of Nanjing University's motto, "Sincerity with Aspiration, Perseverance with Integrity," has been passed down through generations of students, embodying NJU's profound heritage and character. The donation of the motto stone by the Shanghai Alumni Association symbolizes the deep connection between the alumni and their alma mater, transforming their affection into a tangible spiritual landmark. He hopes that this motto stone, engraved with cultural genes, will become a spiritual bond that unites and empowers the development of the Univerity and all alumni. In this new era, NJU will resonate with alumni globally, forging the soul with the motto spirit, laying the foundation with pragmatic cooperation, and painting a magnificent picture of building the "First Nanjing University" with innovative breakthroughs.

Zhu Zhendong extended warm congratulations to the alma mater on her 123rd anniversary. He expressed his commitment to alumni work with even greater enthusiasm, selfless dedication, and persistent effort, aiming to establish the brand of NJU alumni work in Shanghai. He hopes that this motto stone, engraved with the character "Sincerity," will witness NJU alumni adhering to the principle of "Enduring hardships to achieve great things," and continue to write new chapters on the journey of building the "First Nanjing University."

The motto stone is placed in front of the South Administrative Building on the Xianlin Campus, intended to celebrate the 123rd anniversary of Nanjing University and to promote the spirit of the motto "Sincerity with Aspiration, Perseverance with Integrity." The stone is made of Taishan stone, measuring 9.3 meters in length, 3.45 meters in height, and 1.3 meters in thickness. It has been naturally sculpted over hundreds of millions of years, with a solid and robust texture, symbolizing "as stable as Mount Tai, as secure as Mount Tai, as heavy as Mount Tai," resonating with NJU's profound cultural heritage and pursuit of excellence, and embodying the alumni's best wishes for the alma mater's.

The ceremony was hosted by Feng Fan, Director of the Alumni Affairs Office and Secretary-General of the Alumni Association of Nanjing University. Representatives of the Shanghai Alumni Association, and responsible persons from relevant departments of NJU attended the ceremony.
