Tan Tieniu attends NJU Traditional Instruments Orchestra's European tour report performance

On May 17, the Traditional Instruments Orchestra held the European tour report performance on Suzhou campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Marking the third anniversary of President Xi Jinping's reply and the 123rd anniversary of the founding Nanjing University, Tan Tieniu extended warmest regards to faculty and staff as well as performers of the orchestra. He pointed out that since its establishment nearly 30 years ago, the Orchestra has consistently promoted cultural exchanges and mutual understanding, having toured internationally over 100 times, telling China's story through ethnic music with remarkable success. The recent high-level tour across France, Belgium, and Norway, consisting of 12 performances, built bridges of friendship between Chinese and European citizens and received enthusiastic feedback and unanimous praise from audiences both domestically and internationally.

Tan Tieniu emphasized that the Suzhou campus should become the main base for developing emerging engineering disciplines, constructing a "New NJU," while maintaining her rich cultural heritage. This performance has added more cultural and artistic atmosphere to the Suzhou campus. He encouraged humanities and social sciences students to improve their technological literacy, and science, engineering, and medical students to enhance their cultural and artistic literacy, truly achieving comprehensive development in various aspects.

The elegant sounds of silk and bamboo resonate, gathering kindred spirits under the city of Suzhou. This performance is both a vivid report of NJU Traditional Instruments Orchestra's European tour, and a tribute from the Suzhou campus to celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the founding of NJU. Jiang Tian, Assistant President of Nanjing University, along with relevant leaders from the Youth League Committee and Suzhou campus, and over 300 teachers and students, shared in the music festival.
